19 May - 2 July 2022
Galerie Buchholz is pleased to present AVATAR, an exhibition by Anne Imhof including a new triptych painting, new works in her scratch series, and drawings, overlaid onto and concealed behind an installation of sculptures comprised of industrial lockers. This is Imhof’s fourth exhibition with Galerie Buchholz, and her second in our New York space.
Anne Imhof (b. 1978, Gießen, Germany) lives and works in Berlin and New York. In 2021 she mounted Natures Mortes, a momentous show at Palais de Tokyo, Paris, which included building-wide performances staged throughout a curated exhibition with works by Cady Noland, Cy Twombly, Sigmar Polke, Wolfgang Tillmans, Mike Kelley, Jutta Koether, Rosemarie Trockel, and Gordon Matta-Clark, among others. In 2019 she debuted the exhibition SEX at Tate Modern, London, which traveled to the Art Institute of Chicago (2019) and the Castello di Rivoli, Turin (2021). In 2017 she won the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale for FAUST, her landmark exhibition at the German Pavilion. Other solo exhibitions have been staged at the Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin (2016), Kunsthalle Basel (2016), and Portikus, Frankfurt (2013). She has been awarded the Preis der Nationalgalerie (2015), the Absolut Art Award (2017), and very recently, the Binding Kulturpreis (2022).
